State of Play: Our Global Alliance in Action
A major outcome from the Foundation’s recent global roundtable meeting held at Carajás in the Amazon was the mobilisation of a more dynamic Global Alliance, a concerted and enduring effort by our global network to help generate positive outcomes for the planet.
As a next step, the Foundation is coordinating an online discussion about our Global Alliance in Action, involving our Partners and Allies, which we will convene on Monday, 3 November BRT, GMT, CET / Tuesday, 4 November AEDT.
This will be an intentionally informal and intimate discussion, incorporating both global and Australian thinking and action. It will, as usual, be conducted according to the Chatham House rule.
We’ll exchange views on the actual and preferred state of play on the complex issues associated with climate change and the energy transition and the care of nature, both globally and in Australia.
The roundtable will be co-chaired from Melbourne by our Alliance leaders, Dr Mark Cutifani CBE & Ms Sharan Burrow AC. Mark will provide us with insights from the keynote address he will deliver the following day to an international mining industry event, regarding the imperative for business to lead on these issues. Sharan, who is deeply engaged in advocating a fair and just energy transition, both globally and in Australia, will provide perspectives on the likely outcomes from Brazil’s imminent COP30 climate summit, which she will attend.
The Hon Matt Kean, Chair of Australia’s Climate Change Authority, whose advice has just been adopted by the Australian Government in setting its national climate targets, will engage with our attendees about the roadmap required to guide certainty for investment and outcomes in Australia’s energy transition.
The roundtable will be conducted in two one-hour sessions, back-to-back.

Session One: Brazil emerges globally, as host of COP30
Building upon the success of our recent global roundtable meeting in Brazil, we’ll discuss international expectations of COP30 and deepen our understanding of Brazil’s growing global role, including what this could mean for future cooperation on climate, nature and global governance.
This will include an update on Brazil’s ambitious plan, now on track for launch, of the Tropical Forests Forever Facility, an initiative of global significance with which the Foundation has been an enduring advocate.
Session Two: Australia’s National Energy Transition
With the recent announcement by the Australian Government of new national energy and climate targets, Australia enters a decisive period in its own national transition. Exploring what these commitments mean in practice, the discussion will aim to better understand how such targets will drive realistic outcomes.
The discussion will also consider Australia’s contribution on the regional and global stage, and how international partnerships and policy alignment can enhance national outcomes.

Further details to come.
